Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mahabahu-Brahmaputra initiative on Friday (February 19) via video conferencing and he also laid the foundation stone of the Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge performed a ground-breaking ceremony (bhumi pujan) for the construction of the Majuli Bridge during the function. Addressing the gathering virtually, he said that it is the historic day for the people of Majuli as well as for the North East. PM Modi also said that the development of Assam is the priority of the Centre and the government is continuously working on it. The launch of the initiative will be marked by the inauguration of the Ro-Pax vessel operations between Neamatighat and Majuli, Dhubri-Hatsingimari, and North-South Guwahati. The program targets giving consistent network toward the Eastern Parts of India. It incorporates different development activities for individuals who are living around Barak and Brahmaputra waterways.
